Overview

The Fuels & Material Handling Technician operates, performs routine preventive maintenance, routine wash-down and cleaning, troubleshooting, and routine inspections of all fuels and materials handling equipment.  Equipment includes conveyor systems, samplers and analyzers, reclaim equipment, mobile equipment and support equipment.    

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:

  • Operate assigned fuels and materials handling mobile heavy equipment including dozers, front-end loaders, backhoe, excavator, fork lift, skid-steer, locomotive, and support equipment
  • Operate coal conveyor systems, samplers and analyzers, and limestone unloading and distribution equipment
  • Operate computerized control board for all system components while constantly monitoring all alarms and reporting equipment or system issues immediately
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities (oil & grease) associated with mobile heavy equipment (dozers, end loaders, backhoe, etc.), including material handling equipment such as gear boxes, rollers, etc.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning to include wash-down, unplugging chutes and cleaning up spills as needed
  • Responsible for timely and accurate data collection and recording for assigned systems
  • Assists in requisitioning parts and supplies for assigned systems and areas of responsibility
  • Completes required operator training and annual refresher training
  • Assists in the training and development of other employees, shares knowledge with co-workers
  • Practices situational leadership, teamwork, safety and environmental stewardship
  • Maintains knowledge of environmental compliance obligations with respect to air pollution control permits and storm water runoff permits
  • Performs all duties in accordance with standard operating and safety procedures
  • Performs other duties, including non-core responsibilities as directed
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

Education/Experience

  • Two-year Associates Degree in a technical field or equivalent power plant experience preferred
  • Experience operating mobile heavy equipment, conveyor systems with computerized control boards, and/or performing mechanical and/or electrical preventive maintenance work preferred
  • Must successfully complete applicable EEI Test Battery

 

Certification/Licensure

N/A

 

Knowledge of

  • Operating assigned equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • All state and federal laws and regulations governing the production of electricity
  • Safety and health hazards associated with the production of electricity

 

Skills, abilities and physical requirements

  • Ability to work effectively as team member on assigned crew
  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others
  • Ability to read, understand and follow operating procedures
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment
  • Don and wear required safety equipment including respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing and safety shoes as needed

Compensation and Benefits:


At Prairie State, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as one grows and develops within a role. The base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is between $33.92 per hour and $45.23 per hour. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, this position is eligible to participate in the Company’s monthly incentive program.

Prairie State offers all full-time employees paid time off, accruing 160 hours annually with gradual increases based on length of service, as well as nine paid holidays per year. Paid maternal and paternal leave is also available to employees that meet the eligibility requirements.
