Overview

 

The Facilities Lead Technician reports to the Facilities Supervisor and is responsible for supervising all Facilities Technicians while maintaining the buildings and grounds across Prairie State Generating Company (PSGC). This role acts as the main point of contact for assigned work and collaborates closely with the Facilities Coordinator, Sr. Facilities Technician, and other departments to ensure smooth campus operations. These duties and all others which may be deemed as the responsibility of the Lead Technician’s position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Facilities Technicians, ensuring all work is completed safely and correctly.
  • Delegate tasks and monitor completion and quality of work.
  • Coordinate maintenance efforts across the PSGC campus and remote sites.
  • Maintain maintenance records and daily activity logs.
  • Assess and address critical issues in building systems.
  • Interface with vendors and contractors.
  • Oversee maintenance scheduling and shift assignments.
  • Manage special building and road projects.
  • Maintain PSGC rental properties.
  • Submit and approve time sheets, purchase requests (PRs), service requests (SRs), and work orders (WOs).
  • Provide maintenance support at remote sites: Jordan Grove, Training Center, River Pump House.
  • Supervise service contracts (extermination, lawn care, etc.).
  • Work with Plant and Mine personnel for maintenance needs.
  • Maintain lighting, plumbing, electrical systems, and operating heavy equipment including:
    • Water Truck, Dump Truck, Vacuum Truck, Tractor, Skid Steer, Backhoe, Front-End Loader, Truck with Trailer.
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.

    • Building construction and demolition.
    • Concrete work for roads and sidewalks.
    • Hydro-excavation and Vacuum Truck operation.
    • Contractor support (trash, water, etc.).
    • Cleaning (elevators, floors, turbine areas).
    • Road and lighting maintenance.
    • Fence/gate/signage repair.
    • Landscaping, thistle/noxious weed control, erosion management.
    • Snow removal and trash control.
    • Office relocations and setups.
    • Painting, signage, and banner installations.
    • Maintenance of equipment like filters, floor scrubbers, ice machines.
    • Roof repair, drain jetting, power spraying stacks.
    • Event setups and electronics recycling.
    • Safety equipment inspections and updates.
    • Helipad and flagpole maintenance.
    • Support for IT (cabling and mounting).

Qualifications

Education/Experience

 

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate’s degree in HVAC, Electrical, or related field (or equivalent work experience) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance, mining, power generation, engineering, or similar industrial fields preferred.
  • Strong organizational and people skills.

 

Certification/Licensure

 

  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
  • HVAC, Plumbing, MSHA, OSHA 30-hour.

 

Knowledge of

 

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and building maintenance.
  • Proven ability in work delegation and planning.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and communication skills.
  • Budget understanding and ability to read technical drawings.

 

Skills, abilities and physical requirements

 

  • Effective communication and comprehension of technical documents (blueprint, etc.).
  • Ability to work flexible hours and work independently.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs., working from heights, and in confined spaces.
    • Work in close quarters.
    • Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment and must be able to bend or stoop for a full shift.
    • Don and wear required safety equipment including respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective

Compensation and Benefits

 

At Prairie State, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as one grows and develops within a role. The base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is between $32.69 per hour and $38.46 per hour. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, this position is eligible to participate in the Company’s monthly incentive program.

Prairie State offers all full-time employees paid time off, accruing 160 hours annually with gradual increases based on length of service, as well as nine paid holidays per year. Paid maternal and paternal leave is also available to employees that meet the eligibility requirements.
