Overview

Summary

 

The Control Room Operator performs operating tasks inside the control room. The primary task is to monitor the safety, maintenance and operations of the underground mine and take action as required to changing circumstances. The Control Room Operator provides up-to-date real time information on mine operations and incident details; will evaluate all situations, notify appropriate personnel, and will take corrective action that is required as directed. The Control Room Operator will input safety, maintenance and operation information into the computer systems and provide information to other departments. The Control Room Operator serves as the central point of all critical mine information communication.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:

 

  • Will provide current and up-to-date, real time operating information to safety, maintenance, operations and engineering personnel.
  • Will ensure that unusual events and conditions are reported promptly to the responsible personnel for the purpose of avoiding potential dangerous situations or production losses.
  • Will ensure that production and delay information is kept current, reconciling as necessary.
  • Use of advanced IT applications and MAXIMO CMMS.
  • Performs other duties, as directed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

The Control Room Operator will provide authority of knowledge to the Mine Safety, Maintenance, Engineering and Operations personnel.

Education/Experience

 

  • High School or GED.
  • Mine industry experience is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge and ability to use advanced IT applications, including familiarization with a Computerized Maintenance Management System, required.
  • The Control Room Operator must possess superior communication skills (written, oral and listening) and be able to maintain a good working relationship with all departments and outside officials.
  • Candidate will possess strong attention to detail, ability to organize and prioritize assigned tasks and the ability to work independently.

 

Certification/Licensure

  • EMT Certified required

 

Knowledge of

 

  • Data entry skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Intermediate level of proficiency).
  • Standard filing and document control procedures.

 

Skills, abilities and physical requirements

 

  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to read and understand operating procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a highly organized work environment.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.

  • Works in an office environment primarily.
  • Works in a power plant or coal mine environment occasionally
  • Exposed to a quiet to moderately noisy environment primarily; very noisy and dirty environment occasionally.
  • Exposed to industrial safety hazards occasionally.

Compensation and Benefits

 

At Prairie State, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as one grows and develops within a role. The base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is between $ 31.75 per hour and $37.25 per hour. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, this position is eligible to participate in the Company’s monthly incentive program.

Prairie State offers all full-time employees paid time off, accruing 160 hours annually with gradual increases based on length of service, as well as nine paid holidays per year. Paid maternal and paternal leave is also available to employees that meet the eligibility requirements.
