Overview

The Electrical Engineering Supervisor supervises, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the activities of electrical engineering personnel in analyzing equipment problems and implementing corrective actions based on sound engineering principles.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following assigned areas:

  • Provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of plant electrical and controls equipment to achieve maximum equivalent availability and unit performance in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Assign, develop, and mentor the engineering personnel utilizing the System Owner concept and EPRI PM database.
  • Review and approve all plant electrical and controls design changes.
  • Represent or provide designee from Engineering on the Process Safety Management Team, ensuring all equipment or process changes meet all applicable regulatory codes.
  • Support personnel in managing electrical and controls related projects and activities for the plant including economic design/redesign of plant equipment and systems; determination of root cause of problems by performing root cause analyses and implementation of corrective actions (CAP); development of work packages and direction for major outages; and improvement of plant heat rate.
  • Monitor and analyze management information for potential cost reduction opportunities. 
  • Develop safe and efficient standard work practices and procedures. 
  • Perform and/or review economic analyses of operations and maintenance project alternatives. 
  • Support and develop short and long-term goals consistent with department needs. 
  • Interface and coordinate electrical and controls related activities with contractors and other company departments.
  • Provide input for the plant capital budget and the Engineering O&M budget.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the NERC Compliance Program (CIP, PRC, MOD).
  • Provide for personal and professional development of the engineers in the work group. 
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct supervision of either the electrical or the mechanical/chemical engineering employees.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university with a minimum of seven or more years of power plant engineering experience required.
    • May consider other technical degrees with a minimum of twelve or more years of power plant experience in engineering, digital controls and/or plant operations.
  • Supervisory or project leadership experience required.
  • Project Management experience preferred, particularly large capital project execution.
  • Knowledgeable with codes typically used in the utility business (NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
  • Large Generator Experience Preferred.
  • High Voltage Transformer Experience Preferred.


Certification/Licensure:

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License preferred.

 

Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors, company leadership, and ownership.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a highly organized work environment.
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights on scaffolding and plant platform grating as required.
  • Must be capable of entering confined spaces, performing inspections from scaffold or elevated locations, and capable of wearing a respirator.

  • Must be able to walk distances of up to a quarter of a mile over rocky and uneven surfaces.
  • Must be comfortable working in an industrial environment and around high-pressure steam.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

 

At Prairie State, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as one grows and develops within a role. The base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is between $120,000 annually and $142,000 annually. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, this position is eligible to participate in the Company’s monthly incentive program.

Prairie State offers all full-time employees paid time off, accruing 160 hours annually with gradual increases based on length of service, as well as nine paid holidays per year. Paid maternal and paternal leave is also available to employees that meet the eligibility requirements.
