Overview

Provide leadership, management and administrative oversight for all assigned operations personnel to include, but not be limited to scheduling, training, motivation, coaching and counseling as required.  Responsible for ensuring all plant operational production requests are met in a safe and efficient manner, while also ensuring all environmental compliance standards are adhered to. Senior power plant site responsibility during shift operations.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of two large Supercritcal Coal fired units and associated environmental equipment.
  • Develop and implement Operations procedures, including unit startup and shutdown procedures.
  • Provide training and direct support to Operations personnel during plant startups, shutdowns, and other critical operations as required.
  • Schedule and coordinate training for crews with Safety and Training Deparments. Ensure employees complete required training in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory items.Ensure proper documentation is provided to meet all regulatory requirements, including NERC compliance.
  • Ensure that all market related communications are handled accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate with plant Maintenance and Engineering groups to maintain and/or improve the relaibility and capacity of the plant as required.
  • Ensure all assigned Planned Maintenance (PM) activities are completed and reported correctly in support of the Reliablity Centered Maintenance (RCM) philosophy.
  • Work with and train Operations personnel in the most reliable, safe and efficient methods of equipment and system operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Provide and facilitate continuing plant education topics with the crew.
  • Provide technical expertise, leadership and assistance for ancillary improvement projects as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct supervision of Control Room Operators and Plant Technicians. 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred; will consider experience in lieu of degree.
  • Five years of large, coal fired boiler power plant operational experience required.
  • Super-critical boiler operational experience required.
  • Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization experience required.

 

Certification/Licensure:

N/A

 

Knowledge of:

  • Large coal fired generation equipment and related ancilliary systems.
  • Environmental requirements for large energy facilities or similar industrial applications.
  • Highest level of safety standards and environmental awareness.

 

Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors, company leadership, market participants and the owners.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to read, develop, and understand operating procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex operational problems in a large coal fired generation facility.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a highly skilled and educated staff.
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.

  • Must be able to walk distances of up to a quarter of a mile over rocky and uneven surfaces.
  • Must be comfortable working in an industrial environment and around high pressure steam.

 

Compensation and Benefits:


At Prairie State, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as one grows and develops within a role. The base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is between $102,000 annually and $120,000 annually. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, this position is eligible to participate in the Company’s monthly incentive program.

Prairie State offers all full-time employees paid time off, accruing 160 hours annually with gradual increases based on length of service, as well as nine paid holidays per year. Paid maternal and paternal leave is also available to employees that meet the eligibility requirements.
