Overview

The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for supporting all areas of Human Resources which include recruiting, contract staffing, college internships, onboarding, diversity and inclusion, training and benefits, and payroll support. Additionally, this role will assist in employee relations activities which include the areas of performance management, coaching, progressive discipline, workplace investigations, responding to employee and manager concerns and requests, and assisting with proper administration of leaves.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:

 

  • Serves as a resource for all employees providing answers to all HR related questions.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation for Employee Handbook policies and procedures.
  • Assists in resolving employee complaints, policy violations and proactively ensures compliance of the company’s policies and procedures with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, progressive discipline and career development).
  • Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Works closely management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Attends offsite recruiting events and college and high school career fairs for the entire company in order to promote and support the Diversity and Inclusion Program as well as to recruit talented candidates for all open positions.
  • Manages college internship program; this includes management approvals, preparation, onboarding, presentations and exit of college interns.
  • Assists in posting internal and external openings on the company website while ensuring accuracy of job descriptions with PSGC management.
  • Responsible for the EEI Testing processes to include testing and monitoring inventory of testing materials to ensure quantities are available as needed.
  • Coordinates, conducts, and participates in internal and external interviews for open positions, including contract labor.
  • Prepares interview files, schedules and participates in internal and external interviews, and files completed interview paperwork as required.
  • Writes external job offer letters for candidates along with new hire announcements.
  • Writes internal job offer letters along with creating internal transfer and promotion PAFs and writing organizational announcements for promotions.
  • Ensures pre-employment physical and background checks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the onboarding process in the HRIS system.
  • Responsible for supporting the New Employee Orientation for all employees.
  • Assists in entering new employee and contract labor information into the HRIS and LMS system.
  • Coordinates the New Employee mandatory Plant and Mine specific trainings, i.e. OSHA, MSHA, LOTO, Cyber Awareness, Maximo, and specific departmental training.
  • Responsible for entering employee training records in the LMS system and creates reports showing employees that have completed required training.
  • Participates in exit interviews.
  • Organizes and maintains personnel and terminated employee files including electronic files.
  • Assists with HR Compliance audits (internal and external).
  • Monitor and edit time records, including providing support and training to supervisors, to ensure all Payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Assists the Benefit and Leave Program Manager to Manage site Workers’ Compensation and return to work programs.
  • Assists with open enrollment sessions.
  • Consistently identifies areas of process improvement and makes ongoing recommendations.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as required to support all functions of the Human Resource Department.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related discipline or equivalent work experience in a Human Resources role required.
  • Five or more years of experience assisting in Human Resource functions in an industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience with high-volume recruiting or Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) is preferred. 

 

Certification/Licensure:

 

Human Resources Certification preferred.

 

Knowledge of:

 

  • Recruiting laws and regulations.
  • Use of the internet for sourcing and other recruiting purposes.
  • Microsoft Office 365 products including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word applications.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Human Resources Information Systems.

  • Physical Requirements:
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
    • Ability to routinely travel to other company sites.
    • Ability to wear required safety equipment including respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing occasionally as required.
