Overview

Prairie State Generating Company Environmental Services department is looking for college students who are interested in a summer intern program in Environmental Services.  A limited number of internships are available for college students enrolled in a specific curriculum.  Participating as an intern will provide valuable experience and exposure to environmental controls, permitting, monitoring, and recordkeeping aspects of a state-of-the-art energy campus.  Student interns will receive hands-on training and experience as well as exposure to professionals in the energy industry.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned):

 

  • Working with staff on data collection and documentation aspects of water-related environmental issues campus-wide.
  • Working with staff on waste-related environmental issues campus-wide, including waste characterization and management.
  • Working with staff on coal combustion byproducts-related environmental issues.
  • Working with staff on monitoring, permitting and documentation aspects of air-related environmental issues campus-wide.
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.

Education/Experience

 

  • To be considered, an individual MUST be enrolled in a college degree program in the related field of study.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • MUST be available for a 12-week program beginning in in Late-May to Mid-August.

 

Certification/Licensure

 

N/A

 

Knowledge of

 

  • Safety and health hazards associated with each job assignment.

 

Skills and Abilities

 

  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and others.
  • Ability to read and understand technical environmental documents and permits.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to draft basic professional communications utilizing Microsoft office modules, including Word Excel and Power Point as well as Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
