Overview

Prairie State Generating Company is looking for college students who are interested in a summer intern program in the power generation or coal mining industries.  A limited number of internships are available for college students enrolled in a specific curriculum.  Participating as an intern will provide experience and exposure to state-of-the-art technology in a start-up operation.   Student interns will receive industry experience, hands-on training, a paid intern program, and exposure to industry professionals.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned):

  • Assist Safety Manager in implementing the PSGC safety program as appropriate and monitor compliance.
  • Monitor for strict compliance with the associated law, jobsite rules and procedures.
  • Conduct safety inspections/audits to assess safety and health risks.
  • Prepare statistics and reports relevant to company health and safety programs.
  • Ensure proper personal protective equipment is available and utilized by all employees.
  • Assisting Safety Manager in the preparation and review of any documents or reports as requested.
  • Attend all safety committee meetings.
  • Assist safety department staff in conducting safety incident investigations.

Education/Experience

  • To be considered, an individual MUST be enrolled in a college degree program.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • MUST be available for a 12-13 week program beginning in Mid/Late-May to Early/Mid-August.

Certification/Licensure

Knowledge of

 

  • Safety and health hazards associated with each job assignment.

 

Skills and Abilities

 

  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to read and understand safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required in an operating power plant.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, climb ladders and wear respirators as needed.
