  • Overview

    • This position will have accountability and responsibility for the elimination of repetitive failure and continuous improvement of all thermal performance aspects of the power plant.
    • This position is dedicated to the engineering and predictive maintenance functions and will be focused on the application of technical skills and ingenuity required in the analysis of plant thermal performance and related systems causing excessive production loss or maintenance cost.
    • Thermal performance equipment and related systems consist of, but are not limited to, heat exchangers (feedwater heaters, condensers and cooling towers), valves, tanks, piping, combustion inputs, coal feed, etc. This position may also serve as a Project Engineer for other mechanical engineering projects not related to thermal performance equipment such as boilers, fuel system distribution (feeders / pulverizers / burners), air heaters etc.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:

    • Coordinate all thermal performance related maintenance and repair projects for scheduled and unscheduled work necessary to maintain and / or improve the relaibility and capacity of the plant.
    • Continually maintain the general health of all thermal preformance equipment and related systems, evaluate/implement modifications as requested and approved in order to ensure budgeted capacity, availability and equivalent forced outage rates of the facility. Must be a self-starter who actively works to monitor, maintain, and improve equipment health.
    • Lead and/or participate in any plant Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) processes involving or related to thermal preformance equipment and related systems to ensure corrective actions, repairs and or modifications are appropriate and timely in their execution.
    • Continually analyze the general health of the boiler, combustion equipment and related systems, evaluate/implement modifications as requested and approved in order to ensure budgeted capacity, availability and equivalent forced outage rates of the facility. Must be a self-starter who actively works to monitor, maintain and improve equipment health.
    • Provide project management for plant outages through the development of contract work scopes, assembly of budgets and contractor oversite of the maintenance work to be performed to include all thermal preformance equipment and related systems inspections and repairs and tuning of the unit and it’s related equipment on restart or as needed.
    • Work with and train Maintenance and Plant Operations Personnel in the most reliable, safe, and efficient methods for equipment and system maintenance and troubleshooting of thermal preformance related systems.
    • Maintain all thermal preformance equipment and related systems inspections, testing and history records for the facility and provide technical expertise, leadership and assistance for ancillary improvement projects as assigned.

    Education/Experience

    • BS degree in engineering and 15 years of experience working in a supercritical or pulverized coal power plant environment required.
    • Previous experience with utility related equipment and systems and three years of work related experience in power plant operations or maintenance directly related to thermal preformance equipment and project engineering required.

    Certification/Licensure

    N/A

     

    Knowledge of

    • Knowledge and skill associated with thermodynamics and heat transfer analysis are required.
    • Advanced knowledge and troubleshooting skills for combustion and boiler reliability required.
    • Microsoft Office Suite, for preparation of presentations and reports.
    • Experience with IBM Maximo CMMS preferred.
