  • Overview

    This position reports to the Commodity Manager and contributes to the profitability of the company by the economical and efficient procurement of materials, supplies, services and equipment for the operation of the Prairie State Energy Campus power plant.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensure that the interests of PSGC are being served by all parties involved with the procurement effort.
    • Encourage others and seek out ways to reduce total ownership costs.
    • Assist engineering, operations, and corporate services organizations in selection of materials and services, keeping them advised of new developments as appropriate.
    • Places and expedites purchase orders in support of PSGC. Assure purchased goods and services are obtained on a timely basis
    • Maintain purchase orders and award authorization package files in an accurate manner. Maintain purchase history files in an accurate, up-to-date order.
    • Resolves invoice price and quantity variances between quoted and invoiced amounts. Researches and resolves routine problems on purchase orders and requisitions.
    • Assists in the creation and monitoring of blanket and contract purchase orders
    • Assists the procurement staff in making sound purchasing decisions by providing detailed cost analysis, combined with practical experience.
    • Work with cross-functional teams in the development, review, and issue of requests for information (RFI) and requests for quote (RFQ), analyze proposals, negotiate with assigned vendors to ensure materials and supplies are purchased at the most economical total life cycle cost.
    • Measure, analyze, and understand complex business issues
    • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures.

    Other Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Perform special projects and other related duties as needed.
    • Assure all safety policies and procedures are followed.
    • Practice/execute the core competencies of: supply chain management, business & financial acumen, leadership & project management, supply chain information technology, contracts & contract law, supplier risk management, and communication.


    Qualification Requirements

    • A practical, working knowledge of automated materials and purchasing systems as well as general knowledge of accounting procedures and computer technology.
    • Must have the ability to interface with all levels of management.
    • Must possess highly developed written and oral communication skills.
    • Adherence to high ethical standards and integrity are absolutely required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.


    • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience required.
    • A minimum of 5 years purchasing experience is desirable.
