Overview

Prairie State Generating Company is looking for college students who are interested in a summer intern program in the power generation or coal mining industries.  A limited number of internships are available for college students enrolled a specific curriculum.  Participating as an intern will provide experience and exposure to state of the art technology in a start-up operation. Student interns will receive industry experience, hands-on training, paid intern program and exposure to industry professionals.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned):

  • Plans, executes, and reports out on assigned projects through management of scope, schedule and cost.
  • Coordinates, implements, and executes complex project logistics.
  • Working on Plant Operations, Maintenance and /or Engineering projects which include optimization and improvement projects.
  • Develop project plans and associated communications documents. Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.

Education/Experience

  • To be considered, an individual MUST be enrolled in a college degree program.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • MUST be available for a 10 - 12 week program beginning in Late – May to Early-August.

Certification/Licensure

 

N/A

 

Knowledge of

  • Safety and health hazards associated with each job assignment.
  • Technical competence with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Familiarity with project management software, such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Projects desired

  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, is essential.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Adjusts to shifting priorities, demands and timelines using analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to read and understand operating procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, climb ladders and wear respirators as needed.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
