Prairie State Generating Company is looking for college students who are interested in a summer intern program in the corporate Accounting/Finance environment of the power generation and coal mining industries.  A limited number of internships are available for college students enrolled in a specific curriculum.  Participating as an intern will provide experience and exposure to state of the art technology in a start-up operation. Student interns will receive industry experience, hands-on training, paid intern program and exposure to industry professionals.


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned):

  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
  • Assist with treasury functions, including daily cash reports.
  • Perform accounts payable and general accounting duties as assigned.
  • Assist in contacting vendors regarding payment methods and invoicing options.
  • Assist with the evaluation of internal accounting controls.
  • Assist with the preparation of ad hoc and other internal reports.
  • Maintain electronic/archived record of accounts payable and payroll.
  • Work on special accounting projects which may include projects in Accounts Payable, Budgeting / Forecasting, Payroll, Tax, Compliance Assurance and monthly financial closing processes.
  • Provide support to the Finance team as assigned.

  • To be considered, an individual MUST be enrolled in a college degree program in Accounting, Finance or related.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • MUST be available for an approximate 10 week program beginning in Mid-May to Mid-August.

  • Ability to read and understand operating procedures.
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, climb ladders and wear respirators as needed.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
