Provides leadership and technical oversight for the operations personnel in the operation of two supercritical coal fired units totaling 1600 Megawatts.  Responsibilities include safety, environmental compliance, procedure development and adherence, budget development and management, efficient unit operation, and support of world class availability targets.


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:

  • Direct supervision of shift supervisors who in turn are responsible for the supervision of the operations crews operating two 800 MW supercritical coal fired units and associated environmental equipment.
  • Provide safety leadership for the department in achievement of high performance safety objectives.
  • Ensure environmental compliance for all aspects of plant operation.
  • Leadership of the planning and tracking of operations related budgets, generation and consumables.
  • Supervision of the development and implementation of plant operating procedures.
  • Development of operations departmental policies, in consensus with the company management team.
  • Provide quality training for Operations Personnel in the most reliable, safe and efficient methods of operation.
  • Provide coordination with the plant maintenance department, material handling department and mine to ensure strong effective relationships.
  • Provide technical expertise, leadership and assistance for projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide daily monitoring of plant performance.


Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical degree required.
  • Twenty years of large, multiple, coal fired boiler power plant experience with fifteen years of Plant Management experience at the Department Head or above level required.
  • Operations Department Head experience required.



Knowledge of

  • Large coal fired generation equipment and related ancillary systems.
  • Environmental requirements for large energy facilities or similar industrial applications.
  • Highest level of safety standards and environmental awareness

Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors, company leadership and the owners.
  • Ability to, develop and lead a diverse team to deliver outstanding business results.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to read and understand operating procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a highly organized work environment.
  • Ability to provide oversight and support for a 24/7 shift operation as required.
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.

  • Must be able to walk distances of up to a quarter of a mile over rocky and uneven surfaces.
