Maintenance Engineer - Mine

Responsible for analysis of maintenance performance data evaluating maintenance efficiency in resolving issues involving the production machinery. Analyze component usage data looking for trends requiring either PM enhancements or additional operator training. Monitor on-going work to ensure sound practices are being followed and that intended results are achieved. Review equipment inspections to determine corrective maintenance requirements. Develop practical, realistic technical solutions for all problems uncovered.


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:


  • Provide technical leadership and direction 
  • Recommend improvements to the scheduled PM procedures
  • Provide work order and performance feedback  to the maintenance planner
  • Participate in the development and continuous evaluation of all PM procedures
  • Oversee the development of technical skills of the technician work force
  • Ensure corrective actions are completed correctly and in a timely manor
  • Ensure reliability and capacity improvement projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Set the highest standard for safety, accepting nothing less than zero accidents
  • Ensure all work planning, execution, and documention processes are followed
  • Apply Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and / or  Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) processes to ensure corrective actions, repairs and  modifications are appropriate and timely in their execution.
  • Review the Planned Maintenance (PM) activities of all assigned equipment and systems to ensure all PM’s are correctly aligned with the Reliablity Centered Maintenance (RCM) philosophy.
  • Provide project management, including preperation and schedule compliance, of all mine equipment or process related outages, by assuring complete contract work scopes are executed, internal resources are assigned, budgets are prepared, and contractor oversite is provided for the maintenance work to be performed.


Other Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Maintain a time and project management approach, completing tasks within time and cost criteria, and blending internally and externally controlled resources.
  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with all safety programs and policies.
  • Ability to set priorities for subordinates on all three shifts at different work locations and to follow-up to ensure priorities have been met.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills, and be willing to develop an atmosphere of joint cooperation and respect between all departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities


Will provide authority of knowledge to Maintenance Manager and Associate Maintenance Manager.



Qualification Requirements


  • A minimum of 10 years experience maintaining underground mining equipment, with focus down to a component and system level
  • Computer literate and proficient with data entry. Basic understanding of the operation of CMMS systems
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highest regard for safety standards for self and others
  • Willing participation in pre-shift stretching and other wellness activities
  • Willing to work overtime or on alternate shifts during planned or unscheduled outages



  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline



  • Electrical certification required
  • Working knowledge of MSHA requirements as set forth in 30 CFR; parts 75 and 77
  • Experience with CMMS systems

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to coordinate with all levels of management.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong sense of closure…”complete what you start”.
  • Ability to read and understand mine plans.
  • Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Stand for 6 to 10 hours on uneven rocky surfaces
  • Walk for up to 8 hours at a time in uneven and wet conditions through sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.
  • Lift up to 70 pounds without mechanical assistance. Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment and must be able to bend or stoop for a full shift as a result of the mine height.
  • Don and wear required safety equipment including SCSR, respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing.
