Overview

Performs general ledger accounting.  Reviews and validates journal entries for accuracy and reviews and processes partner billings.  Makes necessary GAAP adjustments and consolidates financial information to meet internal and external reporting requirements.  Investigates budget variances, and provides explanations to management. Assists in the coordination and preparation of financial statement audit supporting documentation.  May also have responsibility for understanding and reporting out on FERC accounting rules.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Performs general ledger accounting functions including preparation of journal entries and account analysis.
  • Reviews and validates all journal entries for accuracy of account information.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial statements and various other management reports.
  • Support accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice processing.
  • Reviews financial statements for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assists in year-end audits and prepares schedules and documents for independent auditors.
  • Complete monthly detailed account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Review and/or process billings for joint interest partners.
  • Post cash receipts and research payments for accurate posting.
  • Reconciles bank statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of and present financial information to management.
  • Assist with implementation of new systems and enhancement projects.
  • Assist in the maintenance of fixed asset schedules.
  • Assist in the maintenance of accounting policies and procedures. 
  • Assist in the preparation of tax reports.
  • Performs Financial Statement analysis (variance budget vs. actual).
  • Assists with budgets and forecasting.
  • Assist in the preparation of special projects, as needed. 
  • Will have access to personal, confidential and financial information.

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA/MBA preferred.
  • Less than five years of accounting experience.

 

Certification/Licensure

  • Not required.

Knowledge of

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
  • Accounting requirements of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Process large amounts of data with a great level of accuracy.
  • Proven written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements and to use Windows-based software for accounting.
  • Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to understand disparate businesses (mine and power generation facility)
  • Demonstrated analytical, skills.
